#Vintage

The 20s, Jazz and Fashion.

Let’s go back at the 20’s… a cold night of winter in a New York’s jazz bar. In a time when jazz is at the edge and the drinks are prohibited.

A saxophone, a vintage metallic microphone, a projector and a singer; these are the elements of that night. The customers have arrived so let’s focus on their clothes!

A lady is approaching the door. She wears a black ribbon with a red rose on; a simple sleeveless dress with fringing. She also has white pearls in her neck and beautiful black, satin gloves. Her shoes are simple black hills with clasp on the side. For the cold she wears a white fur.  But wait a minute; she is escorted by an elegant sir. He wears a long coat. Beneath that coat, he wears a classic grey suit with a red rose at the lapel. What I love in his style is the shoes; the well known brogues. But it’s time to concentrate on the clothes because the subject of this post is the clothes of 20’s.

The hair, the dresses and the accessories are everything! A rich and elegant miss had to be unique and always cares for her style.

At the 20s we have clothes which revealed body parts, which was forbidden for a woman to uncover them. The dresses get low neckline and the woman back appeared for the first time. The length of the dress is up to the knee.  Sequins, gold threads and fringing are the main parts of the dress.

Colored dresses, designed to charm the men. Even today these dresses intrigue the women; and they choose them at the Mardi gras or at theme parties. Maybe because this clothing belongs to a time which everything was forbidden and simultaneously free.
Let’s focus to  the accessories. Hats, hair ribbons, stoles with fringing, elegant small bags, pearls , gloves up to the elbows. Accessories that made a woman feel lustful, elegant and sexy.

It would be a terrible mistake to forget the shoes. Now I would like to refer to the brogues.  They are the definition of elegance and true style. They are vintage and very man must have a pair in his closet.  As for the women; the shoes of 20s are classic and simple and they can be worn anytime of the day and any season.  They are elegant and stylish.

The 20s is one of the most beloved decades in the fashion history. The woman of that time lives passionate, she falling in love and become free from the stereotypes of her time. It’s not simple that many clothes of that time are vintage and worn even today.
