Marina Diamandis (Marina and the Diamonds)

When asked to describe her style, Marina answered: “Saccharine mixed with something darker.”

From the doll lashes of her first album, Family Jewels, to the girly girl of Electra Heart, Marina is an artist who’s extraordinarily conscious of what she’s expressing. Beneath the sugary pastel ribbons,  fingernail polish, and girly hearts, there lurks a compelling elusiveness.

Unlike Lady Gaga, whose outfits are only for stage, Marina’s extravagant outfits are quite approachable and ease to replicate.

The key here is accessories; glasses, bags, lipsticks, belts, bulky jewels…

Here are some of her best moments.

Items:  Southern Blossom Skirt In Charcoal,  CARVEN WOMEN'S KNIT JUMPER WITH,  SHIRT COLLAR - BLACK,  Fit for a Fashionista Heel in Taupe,  ASOS Wide Waist Belt With Buckle,  SMALL TOTE BAG,  Spitfire Styrene Cat-Eye Shades

In this outfit, Marina gives a little wink to the darker side; grays and blacks look great on everyone and with a little bit of pastel you can make this seemingly dull outfit a bit more girly.

Items:  Oasis Stripe Knitted Cape,  Super Skinny High Jegging,  Black Cross Strap Wedges,  ASOS Metallic Faux Stingray Cross Body Bag,  Aria Cat-Eye Shades,  Maybelline New York Color Sensational Vivid Lipstick - 912 Electric Orange,  LOREAL 5mL NAIL POLISH 809 MYSTIC BLUE COLOR RICHE

Accessories are the key in this outfit. Simple jeans and a t-shirt can be jazzed up with a blanket scarf instead of a regular jacket. A sparkly bag is an excellent addition to the look.

Items:  JEAN LOUIS SCHERRER VINTAGE fitted jacket,  SUPERFIT JEAN,  SWING COAT,  Sheela-11 Booties In Navy Blue,  THE ROW  Round Circle Sunglasses, Blue

The importance of a statement piece in every wardrobe! Royal blue is an unexpected colour for a jacket, but one that can easily be dressed up or down for any occasion… and don’t forget your signature sunglasses as well! ;)
